2014 Lebanon Jazz Workshop
‘The First American Jazz Workshop in the Middle East’
The 2014 Lebanon Jazz Workshop was held at Notre Dame University from 4-7 August 2014. This was the FIRST Jazz Workshop ever held in the Middle East. This ground-breaking event was sponsored by Jazz Education Abroad, the Los Angeles College of Music, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Books, the Lebanese Band Association of Music, and Notre Dame University.
Attending the Lebanon Jazz Workshop were over 50 students from Lebanon, Syria, and Spain. At the conclusion of each day, the faculty presented concerts for the students so they could hear their teachers perform and learned how to apply classroom teaching to the performance stage.
Students were placed in jazz combos and large jazz ensembles with individuals of similar abilities, based on their performance and written auditions. Student/teacher interaction and communication is essential for learning.
Through Jamey Aebersold Jazz Books, students were able to purchase many of the play-along CDs, DVDs, jazz method books, and other supplementary jazz materials not readily available in Lebanon For students to have access to jazz materials is extremely important…a welcome addition to the Jazz Workshop.
Master of Ceremonies Antoine Reyes, Assistant Director of the Lebanon Jazz Workshop, announced the Awards Ceremony. Dr. Gene personally congratulated individual students for their success and progress.
